Tempura is my favorite when we speak about Japanese Cuisine, yeah I know the likes of sushi, teriyaki etc., the ones readily available at Japanes fastfood but seldom do I visit. But there's this place in Makati Cinema Square which serves authentic Unagi (Eel) that I tried recently at Unakichi Japanese Restaurant here's my say.

I sometimes feel that Japanes food or cuisine is kinda pricey, but when we were given the chance to check out Unakichi's kitchen, I instantly believed that if your resto is as authentic as this one, I am willing to pay for quality and authenticity. Anway, the Eels used at Unakichi is fresh, they do the slicing in the morning as they open, yup if you are early, you'll be able to witness it. And so with all the other authentic Jap resto's in the metro Unakichi is the first and only one that serves Eel, which is very healthy and expensive but worth it.

We were treated to a sumptuous variety from their menu, I tried their Saba set the Mackarel type and oh it was fantastic, juicy, ang very yummy, it was the best so far. And of course we wouldn't pass the chance to try their Unagi, which goes through a long process before it is served. First they slice the Eel, then it will be places in a skewer or barbeque stick as we normally call it, then placed on a steamer, after that it will be dipped in their special scret saice and then grilled, the result? It was superb, very tasty and very healthy, try their set meal with Unagi which already has rice, salad, sides and soup that goes with it and you'll not regret it.

Unakichi is really something you could check out when you want a variety in your Japanese food and they can easily be located at ground floor, parking area of the Makati Cinema Square. Drop a comment when you get to check it out.

Jollibee has given a grand family day out for their Jollibee Family Values Awardees recently at the Pasig RAVE Park. The families were chosen and congratulated for their effort in helping out in our communities from their own efforts. As a treat, a special picnic luncheon was held at the RAVE Ampitheater where everyone including us enjoyed a Jollibee Supreme meal and of course Chicken Joy, and an added bonus of a special guests, who else but the very famous and adorable Jollibee! Kids and adult alike were very delighted to see Jollibee who was very game for photo ops and selfies with everyone.

After lunch, the whole group were divided per team for a tour at the RAVE Park, the kids were all giddy to check out the mini zoo, the park and the maze, I wasn't even expecting that there is a huge place like this one located in the heart of Pasig City, a very good place for families to bond and enjoy, away from gadgets and the city noise. To cap off the day, a group picture taking was made as a remembrance of a fruitful day and that families will always play an important role in our society.

I managed to drop by Greenfield Pavillion yesterday, while waiting for the Mister I browsed through the shops "tiangge" and checked out what's new since I've not been into the area for about a month now. I entered one of the shops which houses affordable "sari-sari" stuff and found myself in their toy section (yes I know always, always find myself in the for kids section yan na ang fave area namin) anyways, I saw a few toys but something really catched my attention, the small Xylophone, I even tested it if it works and it did, lately our 1Y4M Buchoychoy loves playing the piano app on Tatay's phone but because we agreed not to expose him (yet) to tablets, phones, iPads etc. I thought this was a good alternative, also educational since we've been showing him things that start with the alphabet so a good actual example (X for Xylophone). I was so happy to know that there's this shop where we could buy toys, cheap yet practical. From the start my husband and I agreed also not to buy super expensive toys until he reached the stage wherein he is responsible enought to play and take care of them as well, for now I will be posting and writing our #BenteSingkoSerye on my IG: Chubbychitchat and on this blog.

P.S While writing this post, B is enjoying the Xylophone

How about you mommies, what's your take on toys for your kids? Share them too please.

Ask any entrepreneur his secret to success, and he would tell you that it is more than just luck. For Victor and Evelyn Lam, the powerhouse couple behind the Mrs. Lam Rice brand, it was really the four Ps of perseverance, persistence, parental care, and prayers for God’s blessings that guided them throughout the years.

Fact is, the family of Victor Lam has been in the rice business for generations before his generation decided to venture into other careers. He learned much of what he knows about the business from his uncles. That’s why he was confident of going back into rice trading in 2000.

After deciding on naming the business after his wife, he went through the arduous process of finding suppliers and trying out different varieties of rice. Unsteady supply from rice traders meant that quality would vary from one purchase to another, from one harvest to another. There was the also the issue of storage. Being new in the business, they learned that rice mills often did not entertain small orders.

“We could not sell rice without a consistent supplier and quality,” says Mrs. Lam. “We had to build our own brand, and consistent quality would be the key to our success.”
The Lams bit the bullet. They ordered an initial stock of 40 sacks of rice, thinking that what they couldn’t sell, they would just cook and serve on their dinner table. Only then did they learn that you could not keep rice in storage for more than three months, because weevils start to grow.

Door-to-door sales

The Lams started to personally sell their rice door-to-door in villages near their home, distributing flyers themselves, and eventually advertising in village publications. They did the deliveries themselves, using their own car and tapping their family driver. Their cook, whom she discovered had an extensive knowledge on rice varieties, helped out by answering and taking down phone inquiries.

Their base of loyal clients eventually grew from their relatives and close friends when they started placing their products in supermarkets. When their first big order came in, her parent’s and sister’s households helped in delivering their commitments in time. Mrs. Lam Rice had become a family endeavor.

Getting into supermarkets proved to be a tough task considering there are already a number of brands in the market.

“Honesty is very important when you deal with people,” says Mrs. Lam. “I remember the first clients we had. Initially we were told they don’t have space to display our rice. But after being very truthful in our answers to their queries, we were allowed to sell two varieties, namely Sinandomeng and Dinorado.”
To stand out from the crowd, the Mrs. Lam Rice brand was the first in the market to introduce vacuum-packed rice as a means of prolonging shelf life. From then on, sales started to grow slowly.
“We started getting accepted in various supermarkets, engaging in retail on a per kilo basis, as in wet markets. We kept our margins very low, and delivered best quality and tasting freshly milled rice. Our rice undergoes processing at par with big Thai rice mills,” says Mrs. Lam

Product expansion

Mrs. Lam Rice caters presently to the broad A to E market segment, from the budget-conscious to discriminating ones. Its premium local rice varieties include Dinorado Special, Whole Grain Sinandomeng, Long Grain, Sinandomeng Special, Intan, Sinandomeng, and Laon—palay that has been aged for a year for those who prefer fluffy and non-sticky grains with more yield. Its specialty varieties includes Thai Jasmine Milagrosa, Japanese short grain variety, Sticky or Glutinous (Malagkit), and Thai White Rice.

“When my father was diagnosed with cancer, we searched for an organic rice supplier and found a cooperative in Nueva Ecija to ensure a steady supply of church supervised farming and certified Organic Red and Organic Brown Rice,” says Mrs. Lam.

“Organic Rice is highly recommended for health enthusiasts as it is absolutely free from synthetic pesticides or chemicals,” she explained. “This is important because in semi polished rice, only the husk is removed. There is no polishing. That’s why we are able to avoid residual pesticides when we eat Organic Rice.”

The company also attended international expositions to upgrade its packaging to international standards. It started working from a small storage facility, roughly around 80 square meters, to intentionally limit its stock to just a few days’ supply of freshly milled rice. It counts top Chinese and Thai restaurants in Metro Manila among its loyal clients.

Breaking new grounds

For the past 16 years, Mrs. Lam Rice has relied on word-of-mouth and client recall to promote its products. However, the firm believes it is now time to actively market its inventory of rice varieties. It recently signed up actress and celebrity mom Danica Sotto-Pingris as its brand ambassador.
“Danica is already serving Mrs Lam’s Rice to her family, and they enjoy it. So, she is the perfect brand endorser for us,”Mrs. Lam proudly declares.

The endorsement of Sotto-Pingris of their rice varieties highlight the family orientation Mrs. Lam Rice wanted when the Lams were searching a name for their product.
“When we were deciding what to call it, my husband wanted a name that was more family sounding,” she recalled.
And the rest is now history.

Mrs. Lam Rice The Quality We Bring To Our Table

Marion Aunor once again will set the fire on stage at the 19 East Bar and Grill on Sunday October 16, 9pm for her Bar Concert Tour Entitled "Marion + Le Band" hosted by Ambet Nabus, with the special participation of Ash-Ash and Jeff Cifra plus the special guest Mr. Michael Pangilinan.

This is another well deserved project for a lovely lady who really has a talent in both singing and song writing, as we do the interview I can't help but be amazed by her passion in singing and admits she enjoys performing now because she can be who she is on stage and no she is not doing those overly sexy stuff, she just wants to be the kinda like "Selena Gomez" look. She already had about 50 compositions and started to sell a few already, one of which is Kathryn Bernardo's song entitled "You Don't Know Me".

Right now, Marion already have released her 2nd Album under Starmusic and almost all the songs were her compositions plus a number of nominations for the Star Awards. You see that is real talent here, we'll hope to see and hear more of Marion because she deserves every inch of recognition in the music industry.

Quiapo Manila is now brighter and well lit now that Solar Power LED Streetlights with LED Signboard and CCTV along Quezon Blvd., Quiapo Manila is installed with the help and support of Mr Lee Inje who is the owner of Global Goldgoal Inc. We got the chance to interview him and asked why Quiapo when there are a lot of other Cities in the Metro? According to Mr Lee Inje when he came here in Manila back in year 2002, he thought that crimes were very rampant because the streets were dark that everything happens because it was too dark, and so he planned that in the near future, he would want to help out in lighting up the streets to lessen the crimes. Mr Lee Inje also shared how he loves the Philippines and the Filipinos in general because of our very happy and cheerful attitude, unlike in Korea where people are too serious, hence the decision of living here for good.

The Inauguration was held right in the heart of Quezon Blvd near the Quiapo Church and was attended by Manila Mayor Erap Estrada who gave a brief speech and a thank you for this wonderful help and donation. Hopefully with this partnership more street lights can be put up and lesser crimes for our beloved country.

P.S CCTV's are directly connected to the Manila Mayor's office, on the other hand the LED signboards will be used for government and city announcement purposes and not for advertisements.

A definitive guide on soap products you use at home

Cleaning products are essential to every household. There is a wide variety of cleaning products in the market and sometimes, we don’t pay attention to their differences because they visibly perform the same action. Up until now, some Filipino households still misuse cleaning products resulting in unnecessary risk to human health.

For washing of hands, use products that have anti-bacterial properties like the Cleene Foaming Hand Soap perfect to be placed in your kitchen and bathrooms. The special pump converts the small amount of liquid into foam needed for a regular hand wash.

Cleene Foaming Hand Soap has antibacterial and moisturizing properties, and comes in five scents namely, Luscious Strawberry, Heavenly Peach, Golden Citrus, Calming Lavender and Enchanting Sweet Pea available in all Mercury Drug and leading supermarkets nationwide.

Jollibee the number one fastfood chain in the Philippines comes up with its latest and newest offering the Dance with Jollibee App (downloadable for both Android and iOs users) wherein kids and the whole family can enjoy, in particular I had a giggling child like moment for about the App wherein you could upload your picture or my baby's and be included in a dance number with one or all of Jollibee and friends, super cute!

Speaking of Jollibee and  the gang, here's another one that I was extremely overjoyed to have, the "Jollibee Pinoy Collectibles" having a baby who is just 1 year old, and as much as I wanted him to play with them, the child in me made me keep them first after some photo sessions with them toys, yes please do visit Instagram @chubbychitchat for the photos. I wanted it to be something he could keep like any other toy collection, I am sure most of us who grew up loving our Sunday family days at Jollibee would love to collect them all. visit your favorite Jollibee stores and start collecting them now.

P.S Thank you Jollibee for inviting my family during the launch and for the complete set.
